What is a Registry?
A Clinical Quality Registry (CQR) is a database that collects health-related information on individuals who are treated, diagnosed or managed for a specific condition. CQRs monitor and provide feedback to hospitals on the quality of patient care & outcomes, for the purpose of continuous quality improvement.

What is a PCI?
A Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) – often called coronary angioplasty – is a non-surgical procedure used to open blocked or narrowed heart arteries that restrict blood flow to the heart. A doctor uses a small balloon to widen the artery and usually places a permanent mesh tube called a stent to keep it open and restore blood flow.

What is the National Cardiac Registry (NCR)?
The NCR is a CQR that monitors and reports on the quality and safety of PCI across Australia.

The NCR collects patient information to generate reports on PCI procedures, their outcomes and success rates.
The NCR is the result of a coordinated national effort between healthcare systems from all states and territories. The focus of the NCR and its stakeholders is on patient safety.

Is my data safe?
All patient health information provided for reporting is de-identified, which means your identity remains confidential.

What if I do not wish to be included? Can I opt out?
You can choose to opt out of the NCR at any time, without incurring any out of pocket expenses, or affecting the level of treatment or care you are provided with. To opt out of the NCR, please email us at info@nationalcardiacregistry.org.au.

If you are willing to allow your data to be included in the NCR, you are not required to do anything. Should you decide to take part but later change your mind, you are free to withdraw at any time.
